Behind every game lies a story they don’t want you to hear.

Busan, South Korea – November 13, 2025 – From the shadowed corners of indie horror to the boardrooms where billion-dollar mergers are inked, Save Point: Perspectives on the Games Industry 2025 pulls back the curtain on how the video game business really works — and why the truth is rarely pretty.
In his follow-up to Video Game Publishing (May 2025), veteran Games Industry executive and Dark Product founder Scott Millard delivers an unflinching account of the forces shaping the medium: ownership, capital, and culture colliding in gaming’s most turbulent era yet.
Part memoir, part industry critique, and part manifesto for a fairer creative economy, Save Point exposes the stories that don’t make it into press releases — the ones whispered at conferences, over late-night drinks, and on the edge of imploding studios.
A View from the Inside
Across decades at the heart of the global games business, Millard traces the patterns of consolidation, chaos, and creativity that define today’s industry.
What really happens when indie dreams meet corporate capital — and who actually wins.
Inside the chaos of a hotel foyer meeting that changed the fate of a billion-dollar franchise.
How horror, the genre that refuses to die, became the truest mirror of the games business itself.
How global capital — from Riyadh to Shenzhen — now decides what worlds we get to play in.
When the next big revolution in publishing starts, it won’t be in Los Angeles
Save Point makes the case for seeing games not just as entertainment, but as an ecosystem shaped by capital flows, distribution power, and the strange persistence of horror as gaming’s cultural mirror.
Advance Praise for Save Point
“Scott is tenacious, knowledgeable and as driven as they come. The amount of stuff he can keep straight in his head is – in a word – astonishing.”— Jónas Björgvin Antonsson, Founder, Raw Fury
"Scott brings the same wild energy to Save Point that he brought to the Ratshaker console versions. His ideas are smart, fearless, and a little dangerous. This is the kind of thinking that actually moves the needle."— Calvin Parsons, CEO, Sunscorched Studios
“After making Skyrim and Fallout, I wanted to do something truly indie — raw, personal, and anti-AAA in every way. This book captures that same spirit: the courage to build something weird and real.”— Nate Purkeypile, Founder, Just Purkey Games
“Scott’s writing really crackles, and he has a unique talent for making the minutiae of the entertainment industry both accessible and exciting.”— Tim Paugh, Director, Disorder
